- KU's assistant dean of international programs, Hodgie Bricke,
is one of five U.S. international education administrators to
receive a Fulbright grant to study in Japan for three weeks this
summer starting June 23.
By participating in this Fulbright seminar, Bricke will be in
a better position to advise students and departments at KU concerning
study in Japan or partnerships with Japanese universities.
At KU, Bricke oversees the Fulbright graduate student and faculty
scholar program and administers the graduate direct exchange
scholarship programs with 11 European university partners and
three universities in the People's Republic of China.
The U.S.-Japan International Education Administrators Program
is an intensive seminar to familiarize U.S. international education
or senior-level university administrators with Japanese higher
education, society and culture.
The grant also pays for three post-seminar work days during
which Bricke will visit KU's sister university, Kanagawa University,
in Lawrence's sister city, Hiratsuka. And she will follow up
on contacts made by Sandy Gault, KU's international undergraduate
admissions director, who participated in recruiting fairs earlier
this year. Bricke will be assisted in these visits by Ted Sato,
a trade representative with the Kansas Department of Housing
and Commerce stationed in Tokyo. Bricke participated in a similar
Fulbright seminar in 1993 in Germany.
