- An increasing demand for business skills in the health care
industry has prompted the KU schools of business and medicine
to offer a joint master's degree in business administration and
health services administration at the KU Edwards Campus starting
this fall.
"There is a need among modern health care professionals
to gain a broad background in health care and in business,"
says Dee Steinle, associate director of the School of Business
on the Edwards Campus in Overland Park. "It's important
to understand business as it applies to health care, but it's
equally important to understand business theory in a broader
context."
The MBA/MHSA joint degree program will require students to complete
66 credit hours33 hours of health, policy and management
courses and 33 hours of business school courses. Courses this
fall include health care systems, managed care, management information
systems and financial management.
"This is the only accredited joint degree of its kind in
the state of Kansas and in the Kansas City metropolitan area,"
says Rod McAdams, program director for Health Services Administration.
"We're excited about offering this degree to the Kansas
City community. It's what they want."
All classes will meet at the Edwards Campus, 12600 Quivira Road.
