Audio-Reader collects 2 international awards

Kansas Audio-Reader Network volunteers received two Program of the Year awards from the International Association of Audio Information Services during the IAAIS convention last month in Washington D.C.

KU volunteer readers won the Best Newspaper Reading Award and the Best Short Stories Series Award.

Elinor P. Schroeder, distinguished professor of law, and Harlan Roedel, retired University Relations staff member, were the award-winning readers for the Best Newspaper Reading Award. They read the Kansas City Star and the Topeka Capital-Journal for the Breakfast Table Times.

Paul G. Friedman, associate professor of communication studies, and his children, Joy and Glenn, won the Best Short Series Award. The Friedmans read "Nothing but the Truth" a book by Avi, which was read as part of the Lawrence public schools' "If All of Lawrence Read the Same Book" 1999 reading event.

The Audio-Reader Network provides a radio reading service and a dial-in newspaper service free of charge for anyone who has difficulty reading printed material.
