Volunteers represent KU at Kansas State Fair

Dozens of KU employees volunteered their time to staff a booth, answer questions, hand out KU goods and represent the university at the Kansas State Fair this month.

The following faculty and staff members volunteered to staff the university booth at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. Volunteers presented visitors with KU goods and answered questions about KU's mission and service to Kansas. New this year was a fair blog at http://statefair.blogs.ku.edu/.

RESEARCH MATTERS: Daphne Fautin, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, is a commissioner for the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. "It's the Supreme Court of zoological nomenclature. We make decisions not on whether a particular species is really valid, whether it exists or not - that's a subject of scientific debate. But whether it has followed the rules, the laws the international code of scientific nomenclature so that it can be considered scientifically available and it actually applies to an entity that we can identify," Fautin said.
