Universal bus access to start in fall

All faculty, staff and students will be able to ride KU buses at no cost starting in the fall semester.

Donna Hultine, director of Parking and Transit, said that riders can take any on-campus bus route without being required to present an ID. Visitors will be able to ride on campus routes without a fare as well.

Faculty, staff and students will be required to show a KUID when taking an off-campus route.

KU directory entry updates due June 13

University departments are being asked to update their entries in the administrative offices section, or "white pages," of the 2008-09 KU directory by June 13.

Department representatives should review relevant sections of the 2007-08 directory, note all references to their department and photocopy all relevant pages and mark deletions, additions and other updates in red ink.

For changes to individual faculty and staff listings in the blue-bar pages, faculty and staff should contact their department's personnel-related staff representative.

Each department and division should also add its central e-mail address. For instance, the School of Fine Arts would be fineart@ku.edu. These e-mail addresses will be printed in the administrative listings.

The name, phone number and e-mail of the department representative making the changes should be included on the pages and sent by campus mail to Evie Rapport at University Relations by 5 p.m. June 13. For more information, contact Rapport at 864-8869 or erapport@ku.edu.

TOPONYMS:

After its 1960 opening on west campus, Youngberg Hall housed the Center for Research Inc. After the center moved to nearby Nichols Hall, KU Endowment moved into the hall, which it had built and named in honor of former executive secretary Irvin Youngberg. KU Endowment outgrew Youngberg in 1998, and the KU Center for Research and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies returned. For more, visit www.buildings.ku.edu.
