Randall Jelks, the Langston Hughes Visiting Professor of American Studies, gives his inaugural lecture Feb. 19 at the Dole Institute of Politics. The Hughes professorship brings prominent scholars to campus who share Hughes' interests. It was established in 1977 to honor the late poet, playwright and historian who lived in Lawrence as a child.

Student Daniel Scannell created a series of Jayhawks consisting entirely of plastic cups. Scannell recreated the Jayhawks used throughout KU's history. They are on display in the KU Bookstore and Oread Books in the Kansas Union.
