WEB WORKS
THE SEARCH FOR NONPARTISANSHIP
The dizzying amount of information surrounding the 2008 presidential election just became a bit more manageable thanks to a new KU Libraries search engine. The 2008 Presidential Election Custom Search Engine, created by KU librarian
Amalia Monroe, brings together more than 150 political Web sites selected for their quality, content and nonpartisanship. Monroe, who also has a background in political science, said she wanted to give those who might not be familiar with the election process a “leg up” in understanding its intricacies. The site, which is powered by Google, contains print and electronic library resources, including Web sources designed for finding up-to-date information. It can be viewed at

NOTABLE ALUMS:
Debbie Vickers started out as a page for NBC in Hollywood after graduating from KU in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in general studies. But she worked her way up to talent coordinator for the "Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" before hitting the big time in 1994 as executive producer for Jay Leno after he took over Carson's desk. The Wichita native plans on stepping down when Leno retires next year.
