Lied Center announces 2008-09 performance schedule

The Lied Center of Kansas has announced its 2008-09 performance schedule.

Laurie Anderson presents Homeland Sept. 12

Laurie Anderson will present "HOMELAND" Sept. 12 as part of the New Directions Series.

"We have a very exciting upcoming season," said Tim Van Leer, executive director of the Lied Center. "We're going to be exploring the jazz-classical connection, delve into multimedia performance, and we're especially thrilled to be presenting ÔTree of Life.' The Lied Center has been working on this grand project for the past two years, and we're so pleased to be closing next season with it."

The Lied Center Series is composed of the Concert Series, founded in 1903; the Swarthout Music Series, founded in 1947; the New Directions Series, founded in 1987; the Lied Family Series, founded in 1996; and the World Series, founded in 2000.

Single-performance tickets will go on sale to Friends of the Lied and series subscribers on June 9 and to the public on June 16. Season and subscription packages are available from the Lied Center ticket office, (785) 864-2787 or (785) 864-2777/TDD.

NOTABLE ALUMS:

Debbie Vickers started out as a page for NBC in Hollywood after graduating from KU in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in general studies. But she worked her way up to talent coordinator for the "Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" before hitting the big time in 1994 as executive producer for Jay Leno after he took over Carson's desk. The Wichita native plans on stepping down when Leno retires next year.
