Helen M. Rhea, 84, died May 7. She worked as house director for Sigma Nu fraternity for 12 years. She is survived by two daughters, one son, one brother, one sister, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association or the Community Blood Bank.

Wesley Paul Unruh

Wesley Paul Unruh, 74, died May 17. Unruh was a professor and a researcher in the physics department for 14 years. Survivors include his wife, Ellie; three daughters, a brother, two sons-in-law, and two grandsons. The family suggests memorial contributions to Healthcare Access, 1920 Moodie Road, Lawrence, KS 66046, or to Douglas County VNA and Hospice Care, 200 Maine, 3rd Flr., Lawrence, KS 66044.

Kenneth Garrison

Kenneth Garrison, 79, died May 17. He worked in the carpenter shop at KU. He is survived by his wife, Dortha; two sons; two stepdaughters; a sister; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial donations to the Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of Warren-McElwain mortuary.

NOTABLE ALUMS:

Debbie Vickers started out as a page for NBC in Hollywood after graduating from KU in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in general studies. But she worked her way up to talent coordinator for the "Tonight Show with Johnny Carson" before hitting the big time in 1994 as executive producer for Jay Leno after he took over Carson's desk. The Wichita native plans on stepping down when Leno retires next year.
