A pair of new signs touting KU's achievements were erected on I-70. The signs trumpet both KU's academic and athletic success, pointing out the university's status as an international research institution, 2008 NCAA men's basketball and Orange Bowl champions.

The Institute for Policy and Social Research’s Kansas Statistical Abstract team received the annual KU Team Award for its 41st Edition Kansas Statistical Abstract 2006, published September 2007. The prize was lunch with Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Lariviere.
