SCHOOL OF NURSING
The school has announced the launch of the Health Information Technologies Scholars program, funded with a $1.5 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Bureau of Health Professions in partnership with the Office of Health Information Technology.The program is a collaborative faculty development project between the schools of nursing at KU, the University of Colorado-Denver and Indiana University-Indianapolis; the National League for Nursing; and the Health Sciences Center that integrates information and other technologies in nursing curriculum. The grant, to be administered over five years, is anticipated to transform nursing education for the 21st century and drive improvements in health care delivery through the integration of technology into academic and clinical practice.
KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
WICHITA - Paul Uhlig, associate professor of preventive medicine and public health, was awarded a King James IV Professorship for the 2007-08 session by the president and fellows of the Royal College of Edinburgh in Scotland. The award is presented by the college to practitioners who have made a significant contribution to the clinical and/or scientific basis of surgery. Queen Elizabeth II gave permission for the college to use the title King James IV. Uhlig’s lecture, “Exceptional Clinical Teamwork,” described innovative ways that care teams, patients and families can work together to achieve better quality and safety.
