Albrecht, Darby chosen for Keeler Family Professorships
Sandra Albrecht, associate professor of sociology, and Derrick Darby, associate professor of philosophy, have been selected for Keeler Family Intra-University Professorships for the 2008-09 academic year.
The professorships give faculty members an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of an academic specialty, broaden the depth of a defined field of study or start a new academic endeavor.

Keeler professors are granted one semester free of departmental responsibilities to engage in exchange with faculty from other disciplines, take courses, develop cross-disciplinary projects and/or team-teach in one or two courses in another department or school at KU.
Albrecht specializes in the sociology of work and gender. She has researched the American Labor Movement and conflict resolution, including the ways workers organize to preserve their jobs and maintain a voice in the workplace. She has published her research in numerous professional journals, including the Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, the Journal of Sociology of Work and Occupations, Economic and Industrial Democracy and Labor and Society.
Darby specializes in social and political, as well as African-American philosophy. He recently co-edited "Hip Hop and Philosophy: Rhyme 2 Reason," a book that gathers essays from distinguished authors on bridging the gap between philosophy and hip hop music. His book, "Rights, Race and Recognition" is forthcoming with Cambridge University Press. His next major research project is a study of the relationship between freedom and racial inequality with a view toward providing a philosophical account of what a liberal society owes African-Americans.
