KU wins top honor in communication awards

KU communicators won 20 awards at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District VI Circle of Excellence Awards, including the top prize, the Sweepstakes. The awards recognize outstanding institutional advancement, including fund-raising, alumni relations, public relations and publications.

Although there was a jab at KU, the Jayhawks had the last laugh. An awards presenter told the crowd that Missouri, not KU, belonged in the Orange Bowl, which drew a round of cheers from the Kansas State and MU spectators. The emcee then announced KU had won the sweepstakes, given to the school that earns the most honors.

"I can't describe the satisfaction I felt as I made my way through the crowd, went up to the stage, smiled and said, 'Rock Chalk,'" said Rosita McCoy, senior vice president for communications at KU Endowment.
