Svetlana Vassileva-Karagyozova, assistant professor of Slavic languages and literatures, will read her paper, "The Crisis of Fatherhood in Polish Post-Communist Childhood Accounts," at the conference New Connections, New Directions: Polish Studies in Interdisciplinary Context, to be held April 16-20 at Indiana University-Bloomington.

Sarah Hargus Ferguson, assistant professor of speech-language-hearing, co-organized and chaired a special session titled "Speech Intelligibility and the Vowel Space" during the 154th meeting of the Acoustical Society of America on Nov. 29 in New Orleans. Ferguson also authored a paper for the session, which was titled "Listener influences on vowel intelligibility."

Bob Clark, vice chancellor of the Edwards Campus, gave a presentation titled "Leadership with a small L" on Jan. 10 to the Kansas City Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services.

Three former students of Charles L. Stansifer, professor emeritus of history, published books in 2007. Sterling Evans authored "Bound in Twine: The History and Ecology of the Henequen-Wheat Complex for Mexico and the American and Canadian Plains, 1880-1950;" Christopher M. White published "Creating a Third Word: Mexico, Cuba and the United States during the Castro Era;" and Marshall C. Eakin had "The History of Latin America: Collision of Cultures" published.

KU HISTORY

KU is in the heart of the legislative session, lobbying for lawmakers' support of university needs. The process is a time-honored tradition. In 1909, Chancellor Frank Strong organized a 100th birthday banquet for Abraham Lincoln that brought legislators to campus as the culmination of a major campaign for increased state funding.
