WORTH THE MONEY:
Though many people find them obnoxious, Web banner and magazine ads may be worth the money. A study released last year by
Surendra Singh, professor of business, and two co-authors shows even incidental exposure to advertising can have a positive impact on consumer attitudes. "Effects of mere exposure are expected to grow in a marketplace where consumers' attention is often focused elsewhere," wrote Singh and his co-authors. "Regardless of measured click-through rates, banner ads may still create a favorable attitude toward the ad due to repeated exposure."
REMEMBERING ROCKNE:
Bernie Kish, facilities director for the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences, was quoted in a recent Kansas City Star article about the death of Easter Heathman, caretaker of the site of the plane crash that took the life of legendary Notre Dame football coach Knute Rockne. "More than any other single person, he preserved the memory of Knute Rockne, not just here in Kansas, but really all over the country," said Kish, a former executive director of the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind., and a close friend of Heathman.
