John R. Carter

John R. Carter, 90, died Aug. 26. Carter was a professor and chair of pathology and oncology at the KU Medical Center for six years. Carter also helped establish the National Autopsy Data Bank. Survivors include his wife, Adelaide; two daughters; and a granddaughter. The John R. Carter Award for Medical Student Teaching was established in his honor.

Anita Elizabeth Younger Dixon

Anita Elizabeth Younger Dixon, 59, died Sept. 8. Elizabeth was a faculty member at the KU Medical Center, where she taught pulmonary pathology. Survivors include her husband, William D. Dixon; a sister; two nieces; and one nephew. The family suggests memorial contributions to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Lindley wrote a letter to parents, urging them to discourage students from bringing cars to campus. As he put it, the automobile "is a menace to the democratic spirit of the school."
