CAMPUS ROUNDUP

EDWARDS CAMPUS

The Edwards Campus showed another jump in undergraduate enrollment this spring with a 25 percent increase from last spring semester. This is the campus's highest enrollment in undergraduate programs since the campus began offering undergraduate programs six years ago.

KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE-WICHITA

Angelia Paschal, assistant professor of preventive medicine and public health at the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, recently received the KU Medical Center's fifth annual diversity award.

Paschal was presented with the award on behalf of Barbara Atkinson, executive vice chancellor, in support of the medical center's commitment to providing a rich and varied environment to work and study.

Paschal's research examines the social determinants that contribute to health disparities.

KU MEDICAL CENTER

Heart failure patients at the KU Hospital will soon have access to additional self-management strategies thanks to a $3.3 million grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

Carol Smith, professor of nursing, is the principal investigator on the study of preventive measures for reducing heart failure hospitalizations. Smith and co-principal investigator Ed Ellerbeck, professor of preventive medicine, will test the effects of a series of patient group appointments with heart failure patients and their families.

TOPONYMS

The Lied Center of Kansas is named for Ernst M. and Ida K. Lied. They were the parents of Ernst F. Lied, who attended KU from 1923 to 1925 and played on the university's golf team. After his death, his estate established the Lied Foundation Trust, which oversees the performing arts center at KU and a similar one at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
