Gibson, Sharistanian selected for Keeler professorships
Janet Sharistanian
The professorships provide faculty members the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of an academic specialty, achieve greater depth in a defined field of study or embark on a new scholarly endeavor.
The program provides one semester free of departmental responsibilities for faculty to engage in substantive exchange and interaction with faculty in another discipline, take courses, develop cross-disciplinary projects and/or to team-teach in one or two courses in another department or school at KU.
Gibson's research areas include applied cultural anthropology, ecological and economic anthropology, conservation and development and visual anthropology in Central America and the United States. Her visual anthropology students produce anthropological documentaries of human behavior and everyday life.
Sharistanian's research topics include modern literature, feminist criticism, literature and history. She has published articles on feminist literary theory, Willa Cather and Edith Wharton, and she is the founding director of KU's Women's Studies Program and the Research Institute on Women.
Keeler professorships are available to tenured faculty members who have not taken sabbatical leave in the past four years and have not previously held a Keeler professorship.
