Policy changed to allow online grade submission
The Academic Policies and Procedures committee has recommended changes to USRR policy 2.3.1 that will enable online submission and more timely processing of grades. The proposal will be voted on at 3:30 p.m. April 12 in 203 Green Hall. Interested individuals may submit written comments on the proposed amendment via e-mail to the Office of University Governance at govern@ku.edu by March 30.The University Senate has approved an amendment to the academic misconduct policy. University Senate Code provides an opportunity for members of the university community to review the senate's action. Such a review may be requested by a majority vote of any of the four constituent senates, or by a petition of 100 members of the university community. Requests for review must be received in the University Governance Office (33 Strong Hall) by April 12. Stipends available for international courses
As part of an ongoing effort to internationalize the curriculum at KU, the Office of International Programs is offering an $850 stipend to tenured and tenure-track faculty who develop a new international course or significantly revise an existing course to make it more international.Proposals for courses that meet the academic requirements for the undergraduate Global Awareness Program are especially welcomed. In addition, the Center for International Business Education and Research will offer two more stipends for new international or revised existing courses, which focus on international issues in business, trade, finance and labor.

Faculty, staff invited to enter 'Picture the World'
All KU students, faculty, staff, alumni and visiting scholars are invited to enter the 2007 "Picture the World" photo contest, sponsored by the KU chapter of the Phi Beta Delta honor society. All entries must be photo images from outside the United States. The deadline to submit photos is 5 p.m. March 30. Annual retirement dinner scheduled for May 31
The annual retirement dinner for faculty and unclassified staff is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 31 in the Kansas Union ballroom. Faculty and unclassified staff who have retired since July 1, 2006, and those who plan to retire before June 30, 2007, will be honored at the dinner. University Women's Club provides six scholarships
Six female students at KU have received scholarships worth $1,500 each for the 2007-08 academic year from the University Women's Club.Scholarship winners, who were chosen based on meritorious academic achievement, will be honored at a luncheon April 5 at the Malott Room in the Kansas Union. Rick Ginsberg, dean of the School of Education and professor of education administration, will address luncheon attendees.
Global Awareness Program receives honor
The Global Awareness Program has received the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators' award for Best Practices in International Programming.Program coordinator Jane Irungu will receive the award on behalf of the university April 1 at the joint meeting of the American College Personnel Association: College Student Educators International and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education at their 12th annual international symposium in Orlando, Fla.
Since the program began in fall 2004, more than 1,000 students have participated and nearly 400 students have completed the program that results in certification on undergraduates' transcripts.
April 13 deadline to apply for tuition assistance
The application deadline for tuition assistance for the summer term is April 13. Applications should be submitted to HR/EO, 103 Carruth-O'Leary. To obtain an application or for more information, visit www.hreo.ku.edu/professional_development/tuition_assistance.shtml, or call 864-7419.To qualify for the tuition assistance program, university support staff and other unclassified staff must be working 50 percent time or greater. The employee must have worked at KU for at least six months by the time classes begin, and university support staff must have completed their probationary period.
Gunn Memorial lecture to feature critic, theorist
The 2007 Gunn Memorial Lecture will feature J. Hillis Miller, distinguished literary critic and theorist. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 29 at Alderson Auditorium in the Kansas Union. His talk is titled "A Defense of Literary Study in a Time of Globalization."The lecture is free and open to the public and sponsored by the KU Department of English. Miller is a distinguished professor emeritus at the University of California-Irvine and the author of numerous books on 19th and 20th century English, European and American literature, and literary theory.
Miller is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the American Philosophical Society and has received the Modern Language Association's Lifetime Scholarly Achievement Award.
