Social Welfare earns kudos
The KU School of Social Welfare ranks ninth in the nation for scholarly productivity, the Journal of Social Services Research reports in its current issue. The school was previously ranked 10th.
The journal, which has compiled the ranking every five years since 1979, bases its list on the number of faculty publications in six high profile social work journals.
The current ranking is for the period from 1999 to 2003. The journals considered include Journal of Social Service Research, Social Work, Social Service Review, Journal of Social Work Education, Child Welfare and Families in Society.
"Historically, the KU School of Social Welfare has been regarded as a leader in social work education. Reports of favorable rankings such as this productivity study contribute to our positive reputation and attract exciting new faculty and doctoral students," said Mary Ellen Kondrat, dean of the School of Social Welfare.
The social welfare school has consistently placed as a top tier program on other rankings, including placing 8th among social work graduate programs in public universities, and fourteenth overall in the most recent US News and World Report rankings.
