Grant to help faculty teach overseas

A new grant is available to KU faculty members interested in teaching in a developing country during the 2008-09 fiscal year.

Rotary District 5710 of northeastern Kansas will award one Rotary Grant for University Teachers in September. The grant of approximately $12,500 will fund three to five months of teaching and service in a low-income nation. Applicants must be either active or retired faculty who have held a full-time college or university teaching appointment for three or more years. Rank and tenure are not considered. The subjects to be taught during the grant period must have practical use to the host country.

Downloadable application materials and program information, including a list of potential host countries and stories about past Rotary University Teachers, are available at www.rotary.org/ foundation/education/un_teach/index.html.

Applications must be sponsored by a Rotary Club within district 5710.

The deadline for applications is Aug. 10. For more information, contact Cynthia Patton, district coordinator for the program, at (620) 342-6770, drmatilda @cableone.net or sedens81@ hotmail.com.
