Survey identifies top staff issues

Professional development picked No. 1

An online survey conducted by the Unclassified Senate last fall identified five of the most important work-related issues for unclassified staff.

Professional development was the greatest issue of importance, followed by parking, retirement planning, professional recognition and performance evaluation. The least important work-related issue was the ride share program.

Paul Farran, technology support specialist for Academic Technology Services and chair of the governance and representation committee of Unclassified Senate, said four professional development events have been scheduled in a series called "Get to Know Your KU." Beginning Feb. 6, the events include a tour of the Dole Institute of Politics, a celebration of educational equity programs, an open house and volunteer fair at Audio Reader and KansasPublic Radio and information about the Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Unit.

NOTABLE ALUMS

Idaho's highest point, Borah Peak, is named for 1889 KU graduate William Borah, a highly influential and maverick Republican U.S. senator from 1906 to 1940. He was best known for his role in preventing the U.S. from joining the League of Nations. He later sponsored bills establishing the Department of Labor and the Children's Bureau. A bronze statue of Borah stands in the National Statuary Hall Collection in the U.S. Capitol.
