KU MEDICAL CENTER

Nurses at the KU Hospital were informed recently the hospital was awarded Magnet certification by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center, a branch of the American Nurses Association.

The organization bestows the designation after intense scrutiny to ensure a facility meets about 150 nursing standards. Just 3.5 percent of health care organizations are Magnet hospitals.

EDWARDS CAMPUS

The campus is hosting its first ever KU Master Faculty Speaker Series. All events will be held in the Regnier Hall auditorium, and admission will be free. The series begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 with KU Master Faculty Speaker Series: "Homer's Light," by Stan Lombardo, professor of classics. KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE-WICHITA

The expertise of Sheldon Preskorn, professor, and Ahsan Yaqoob Khan, associate professor, psychiatry and behavioral sciences, led to their involvement on a nationally recognized research team on clinical depression. KUSM-W was among 14 sites selected from across the country to conduct the study, "Sequenced Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression," which was featured recently on the "Today Show."

The first Snow Hall for the natural sciences opened in 1886 and was replaced in 1930 by the current hall, named in honor of the professor who was chancellor from 1891 to 1901. In 1894, Francis H.
