Muma new chair in School of Pharmacy
Nancy Muma has joined the School of Pharmacy as a professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology.Muma comes to KU from the Department of Pharmacology at the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University of Chicago. Her research is directed toward an understanding of the mechanisms involved in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.
Muma has a bachelor's in psychobiology from Western Maryland College, a master's in neuropsychopharmacology from the University of Louisville and a doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Louisville.
Butler named chief of groundwater program
James Butler Jr. has been named acting chief of the groundwater program at the Kansas Geological Survey.A senior scientist at the survey, Butler has been a member of the Geohydrology Section since 1986. He has a doctorate and master's in applied hydrogeology from Stanford University and an undergraduate degree in geology from the College of William and Mary.
He was recently named the 2007 Henry Darcy Distinguished Lecturer by the National Ground Water Association and is an associate of KU's Center for East Asian Studies and a courtesy professor in the KU Department of Geology.
Terranova new vice provost at KU Med
Paul Terranova has been named vice chancellor for research at the KU Medical Center. Terranova succeeds James Voogt, who retired Dec. 31.Terranova, professor of molecular and integrative physiology and obstetrics and gynecology, currently serves as senior associate dean for research and graduate education for the School of Medicine, and is director of the Center for Reproductive Sciences. He has served on NIH study sections at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. In 2002, he received the Chancellors Club Research Award for significant scientific discoveries.
Teeter named to national task force
Deb Teeter
Teeter is a member of the Task force on System Design and Information, which will facilitate the system design and promotion of the system to the public audience and member campuses.
Furbeck added to admissions staff
Lee Furbeck has joined the Office of Admissions and Scholarships as associate director of admissions. She will lead KU's multicultural and transfer student recruitment efforts.Furbeck was previously an associate director in the Iowa State University Office of Admissions. Prior to her appointment in admissions, she worked in housing and taught English as an adjunct and lecturer at three universities.
Furbeck received her bachelor's and master's degrees in English from the University of Kentucky. She received her doctoral degree in English/early American literature from the University of Missouri Columbia.
