SAVING DAYLIGHT SOONER: In accordance with the Energy Policy Act passed by the U.S. Congress in August 2005, starting this year, Daylight Saving Time begins three weeks early, on March 11. This change will affect computers all over the country and software such as electronic calendaring, which will show appointments as one hour off if not properly updated. Software vendors have addressed this issue by releasing software updates that will automatically adjust to the new DST date. KU Information Technology staff recommend that people who use electronic calendaring enter the time into the subject line of any appointment that occurs between March 11 and April 1 as a precautionary measure. An informational Web page with more details is available at www. technology.ku.edu/dst.shtml.
