KU MEDICAL CENTER
The American Heart Association has given the Primary Stroke Center at the KU Hospital its Annual Performance Achievement Award for stroke care. That makes the KU Hospital the first Annual Achievement Hospital for Stroke in a six-state region.

The second installment of the KU Master Faculty Speaker Series will be at 7 p.m. March 7. "Charlie Wilson's War: How the U.S. Defeated the Soviets and Created the Taliban," is the title of the lecture that will be given by Richard Lariviere, provost and executive vice chancellor. Lariviere is the author of prize-winning works on Indian legal history, is a consultant to American and Indian companies in the information technology and BPO industries and has served on corporate boards in the information technology industry.
KU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE-WICHITA
Doren Fredrickson, interim chair, and Carolyn Synovitz, clinical assistant professor, preventive medicine and public health, presented a lecture titled "Bird Flu: Avoiding Pandemic Panic" on Jan. 9. They discussed the difference between seasonal flu and pandemic flu, how a pandemic could occur and how to prepare against and work to prevent an outbreak.
KU HISTORY
In February 1972, a group of women's rights advocates occupied the East Asian studies building. Their purpose was a "means of obtaining the resources to meet the pressing needs of women."
