Panel to discuss policies toward parents at KU

A panel discussion, "Books, Briefcases and Diapers: How does our campus measure up for parents?" will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Big 12 Room of the Kansas Union.

Panelists are Ola Faucher, director, Department of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity; Sarah Frazelle, master's student in economics; Donna Ginther, associate professor, economics; Mary Lee Hummert, vice provost for faculty support; and Lisa Wolf-Wendel, professor, educational leadership and policy studies.

The event is sponsored by the Emily Taylor Women's Resource Center and Student Success.

KU hosting Costa Rican research administrator

The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is co-hosting a research administrator from the University of Costa Rica for an eight-week fellowship. Cristina Alvarado is director of research support at UCR.

At KU, she will work in the Applied English Center, improving her English and shadowing research administration staff to develop a better understanding of how a major U.S. university conducts its research business.

Payroll deduction plan for charitable giving offered

KU employees have a new opportunity to make charitable contributions through a payroll deduction plan. In addition to the currently available payroll deductions to support United Way and KU Endowment, employees may contribute to Community Health Charities. Bulk rate available for Journal-World advertising

In recognition of the large amount of display advertising (non-classifieds) placed by KU, the Lawrence Journal-World and University Communications have worked out a contract qualifying all university offices for a discounted "bulk" rate. The new rate — $16 per inch daily and $16.50 per inch Sunday — is available even to first-time advertisers. Service added to K-10 Connector buses

Additional service has been added to the K-10 Connector bus schedule operating between Lawrence and Johnson County.

Updated brochures are available at the Parking and Transit office

New features include:

  • An additional run from Lawrence to Johnson County at 2:35 p.m. to accommodate 4 p.m. classes.
  • Additional runs from Johnson County to Lawrence at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
  • An additional night run from Johnson County to Lawrence at 7:10 p.m.
  • An additional night run from Lawrence to Johnson County at 8:05 p.m.
  • An additional stop at Haskell upon entering Lawrence on night runs.
  • An established set route through the Lawrence campus at 11:15 p.m.

Research technology forum rescheduled

The KU/KUMedical Center Research Technology Forum, originally scheduled for Feb. 22, will not take place as planned. It will be rescheduled.

Darby to speak as part of Hughes lecture series

Derrick Darby, associate professor of philosophy at Texas A & M University, will present a lecture as part of the Langston Hughes lecture series on Feb. 27. The lecture, which is open to the public, will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Centennial Room of the Kansas Union. Darby is an accomplished African-American philosopher specializing in the philosophical theory of rights of African-Americans.

KU HISTORY

In February 1972, a group of women's rights advocates occupied the East Asian studies building. Their purpose was a "means of obtaining the resources to meet the pressing needs of women."
