Impromptu Cafe opens in KS Union

KU Dining Services has announced the opening of Impromptu Cafe, a full-service restaurant in the Kansas Union, which will feature an innovative menu created by Executive Chef Janna Traver.

"The addition of Impromptu Cafe to KU Dining Services' already diverse lineup of dining options is exciting," said Nona Golledge, director, KU Dining Services. "We're incorporating all the great food and services people have come to expect from us in a completely new way."

Impromptu's menu will feature among its offerings small plates (appetizers), Angus beef burgers, gourmet sandwiches and salads, full entrees including steak, chicken and fish dishes, and desserts.

"The benefit of opening a restaurant like Impromptu is the input we already have from all our customers – KU students, faculty and staff – whom we know well and value," Golledge said. "We're very familiar with the kinds of items they prefer, and we've included them all here."

The new operation will take the place of Milton's Restaurant, which closed at the beginning of the spring semester.

Because of increasing additions and improvements at his downtown location, Milton's owner David Lewis felt it prudent to keep a singular focus on his core business.

"Our downtown location is going strong, and we wanted to keep our attention focused there," Lewis said. "We enjoyed our time in the Kansas Union and will miss being a part of that energy
