Newsletter to provide campus energy-saving tips

Chevron Energy Solutions, KU's energy services partner, has launched a quarterly newsletter to offer the university community ideas on improving energy efficiency.

Energy Saver News will also feature individuals and departments on campus who are striving to reduce energy consumption and are using creative solutions to maximize efficiency. The first issue features Chris Proctor, a student majoring in environmental policy, who is working with Chevron Energy Solutions to monitor energy usage in three campus buildings.

"I've become much more aware of the amount of energy that could be saved every day and it's staggering," Proctor said in the Energy Saver News article. "My attempts to educate students and fauclty about this have started to show positive results in energy consumption savings."

The newsletter is available to faculty, staff and students. To request notification of new issues, e-mail Cindy Strecker, Facilities Operations energy program manager.

Each issue will include KU-specific energy facts. The first issue includes a table titled "It's in the Numbers" which lists the dollars spent on electricity and gas in fiscal year 2006 by building.

Energy Saver News also offers fun facts, an "energy quiz" and "energy myths" to dispel common misunderstandings about energy use and promote awareness of easy efficiency measures.
