BudigOne adds digital hardware, capabilities

BudigOne, the digital workspace that offers faculty, graduate students and researchers resources and on-site technical support, has acquired new, cutting-edge hardware.

BudigOne staff consults on instructional design, digital concepts and standards, digital production and project management. The workspace has added scanners, computers, cameras and software to capture digital images, as well as edit still images, audio and video. The equipment can also tag and mark-up text files and create metadata.

This fall, BudigOne will host workshops on solutions for digital projects.

Services are provided by appointment only, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Faculty and graduate students may use equipment unsupervised after an orientation.

Information Services and Instructional Development and Support collaborated to create a workspace for digital projects. Located on the first floor of Budig Hall, BudigOne supports and trains KU faculty and graduate students in the development of digital projects for teaching and research.

"BudigOne is quickly becoming a place where people come together to work on and share ideas on their scholarly projects," said Holly Mercer, coordinator of digital content.

The Bridwell Botany Research Laboratory on west campus, built in 1965, was funded by a gift from Texas cattle breeder Joseph S. Bridwell, who was interested in research into developing better strains of grasses and legumes for cattle. The building houses the Ronald L. McGregor Herbarium, named in honor of the longtime director who oversaw a vast expansion of KU's plant collections. In addition to more than 350,000 pressed specimens and a slide collection, the building houses a botanical library.
