Dole Institute names faculty liaisons

The Dole Institute of Politics has named three faculty liaisons. From left, Stephen McAllister, professor of law; Lori Messinger, assistant professor of social welfare; and Donald Haider-Markel, associate professor of political science, will help develop programming and enhance student involvement.

The Dole Institute of Politics has created the Faculty Liaison Program, and three faculty members have been appointed to the position for the fall semester.

"The program is designed to take advantage of the variety of expertise, experience and energy of the University of Kansas faculty. The appointments are operational as well as advisory," said Bill Lacy, institute director. "The faculty liaisons' responsibilities include assisting in the development of programs and recruiting high quality speakers, participating in events and activities of the Institute, and promoting the institute's programs with particular emphasis on increasing student participation."

The three liaisons are Lori Messinger, assistant professor of social welfare; Stephen McAllister, professor of law; and Donald Haider-Markel, associate professor of political science.

The appointments are open to any KU full-time, tenure-track faculty of any rank.

The Kansan, the campus newspaper that eventually became The University Daily Kansan, made its debut Sept. 17, 1904. The first headline read "Great Mass Meeting," referring to the establishment of the paper. "Students of KU Demand a Semi-Weekly - Faculty in Too - Every One Pledged to Support it."
