20 professors take home Kemper fellowships

KU's "Surprise Patrol" made the rounds on campus recently, handing out $5,000 W.T. Kemper Fellowships to 20 professors. The awards recognize excellence in teaching and leadership and were presented by a group including Chancellor Robert Hemenway, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Lariviere, deans and representatives of the W.T. Kemper Foundation.

Now in their 11th year, the awards are supported by $650,000 in gifts from the William T. Kemper Foundation (Commerce Bank, trustee) and $650,000 in matching funds from KU Endowment.

This year's winners are:

Memorial Stadium, dedicated Nov. 11, 1922, was built with funds raised in memory of the 130 students, alumni and faculty members killed in World War I.
