BOOKSHELF

READING FAULKNER: James Carothers, professor of English, co-edited Reading Faulkner: Collected Stories. The book attempts to make reading the collection of the author's 42 short stories less daunting. It is a guide to Faulkner's allusions, distinctly southern phrases, difficult words and historical contexts. Annotations offer information about the material and political and literary cultures included in Faulkner's best short fiction.
