ON HOLD ENTERTAINMENT: Departments and schools are encouraged to sign up now for KU Music On Hold, a free service that plays special KU music and messages when callers are put on hold. Sign up at www.onhold.ku.edu. Multiple phone numbers can be registered at once. The service was developed to give callers to KU a more positive experience and impression. Research shows nearly three-quarters of all phone calls are placed on hold, and callers prefer to hear music and messages instead of dead air. Visit the On Hold Web site for more information and to hear a sample of the music.

TOPONYMS

The original Green Hall, now Lippincott Hall, was dedicated Nov. 3, 1905, and named at the insistence of students for KU's first law professor and dean, James W. Green. He fought with the Kansas Legislature for decades over money for his continually expanding faculty and for a permanent building. "Uncle Jimmy" Green served the law school for 41 years.
