ON HOLD ENTERTAINMENT: Departments and schools are encouraged to sign up now for KU Music On Hold, a free service that plays special KU music and messages when callers are put on hold. Sign up at www.onhold.ku.edu. Multiple phone numbers can be registered at once. The service was developed to give callers to KU a more positive experience and impression. Research shows nearly three-quarters of all phone calls are placed on hold, and callers prefer to hear music and messages instead of dead air. Visit the On Hold Web site for more information and to hear a sample of the music.

KU HISTORY

Comanche, a horse thought to be the only U.S. Army survivor of the battle of Little Big Horn, has been on display in Lawrence for more than 100 years. Although he was severely wounded in the battle, he was nursed back to health and lived until Nov. 7, 1891. KU naturalist Lewis Lindsay Dyche, a well-known taxidermist, was called to preserve the horse's remains. He agreed to waive his $400 fee if the Army would let KU keep Comanche. www.kuhistory.com
