Zhou Wenzhong, Chinese ambassador to the United States, accepts a gift from Chancellor Robert Hemenway during a recent visit to the Confucius Institute at the Edwards Campus. Wenzhong was the second high-ranking Chinese official to visit the institute this year. Wu Qidi, China's vice minister of education, attended the institute's dedication in May.

KU IQ

The National Science Foundation recently released a report showing that from 1920 to 1999, 50 institutions have granted more than one-third of all doctoral degrees. KU is on the list at No. 36, with about 5,000. KU is just behind Princeton, Northwestern and the University of Pennsylvania on the list.
