Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Lariviere presents a certificate of appreciation to Becky Saathoff, research aide in the department of special education. Saathoff recently won two silver medals at the Special Olympics national tournament.
Office of Student Financial Aid employees bat a beach ball around and enjoy a pot luck lunch as part of the annual "Fun in the Sun Day." The day of fun marks the end of the summer term, one of the busiest times of year for the office.
Student Ben Koehn applies a Jayhawk decal to one of the new Park and Ride Express buses. The new bus service began making the rounds Aug. 14. It makes 14 stops on a route between the 1,500-space lot on west campus and the main campus. Permits are on sale now for $205. Chancellor Robert Hemenway presents the Departmental Award for Exceptional Teaching and Learning to Ronald Dougherty, chair of the mechanical engineering department. Dougherty accepted the annual award, along with a $10,000 budget transfer, on behalf of his fellow faculty members during the KU Summit on Aug. 15.
Crews worked through the heat of the summer to construct the Docking Family Gateway and Fountain. It will be finished in a matter of weeks.
The Lied Center sign got a facelift earlier this month when crews spent two days adding new lights and updating the sign’s appearance. It is located at the intersection of Iowa Street and Bob Billings Parkway.
Sarah Mendoza, senior graduate work-study student and Jennifer Thomas, grad student and assistant collection manager, entomology, (on ladder) unpack cases of insects into the new storage area of the old Printing Services building. The entomology collection recently moved from Snow Hall to its new home on west campus.
L.R. Lind, professor emeritus, celebrated his 100th birthday in July. Lind began teaching at KU in 1940, and he taught Latin, Greek and humanities as an associate, full and distinguished professor for 36 years.
