Jeremy Whetstone

Current title: KU Memorial Unions evening building manager.

What that means: Whetstone is responsible for coordination of custodial and maintenance staff and occasionally the catering staff. He also is the first line of contact for emergency situations.

Notable: Whetstone has been known to help the custodial staff clean rooms when time is of the essence, work late nights (sometimes until 3 a.m.) for parties sponsored by student groups and cover weekend shifts.

Jannette Madlock

Started at KU: 2004.

Current title: High school academic adviser for Educational Talent Search.

What that means: Madlock provides college-preparatory services to students at six high schools, offering bi-monthly workshops at each school focusing on topics such as college admissions and financial aid.

Notable: Last year, Madlock helped create a filing and tracking system to ensure that students received assistance with admissions and financial aid. She meets with students at least four times per year.

Playwright William Inge called KU his alma mater. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his play, "Picnic," and an Academy Award for "Splendor in the Grass."
